EquityHive is about providing investors with transparency and views into a company's performance from the investors point of view.
The information is presented in a way that matches the investment decision process of balancing risk and reward.
The data is presented from the point of view of the long investor that considers risk as the potential decrease of the value of their investment when it's time to sell and reward
as the potential for future growth. On the risk side we look at short term liquidity risk as well as long term default and solvency risk, and on the growth side we look at past growth
rates, current investments in future growth and managements ability to convert those investments into earnings.
The investment decision making process is further facilitated by allowing users to compare various companies against each other in order to find the best performing company that
suits the investors appetite for risk and reward.
Examples
A lot can be gained from the trading activity of insiders and the option granting policy of the company.
To make insider actions more transparent we not only look at insider trades, but also at grants given to insiders as well as the options they have. The data comes directly from the
SEC and is presented both in table as well as in a graph with the stock data.
- Example, Google's insider trading and grant activity.
About Ruben Rotteveel - Founder
In 2006 I found myself with a bit of cash, and as most people are want to do, I thought about buying a car and investing the rest. Buying a car was easy, there are many sites that allow you to browse and compare multiple cars.
Helping you find the best car and at a good price.
The same can't be said for buying stocks. Most sites focus on stock performance, and ratio based valuation methods. They assume that all companies are created equal.
Comparison sites can't be found and valuation methods that are based on growth potential and risk also were not available.
In short there was no way you could do the due diligence necessary to invest in a good company without endlessly weeding through the SEC trying to find the data required to make a decision.
So, I decided to build something myself --A transparent, fundamentals driven, simple process of looking at many different companies was the goal for EquityHive.
With that in mind, I needed to answer the following:
- What are the opportunities vs. the risks?
- How does one company compare to its competitive set?
- Who is Management and how good are they?
- What's the growth potential for the company in the coming years?
- What are the insiders doing?
- What is the stock value based on the balance of risk and opportunity?
After having built this site single-handedly, I'm glad to say that this is now possible.
The site uses data that comes from our proprietary, automated data extraction tool which runs nightly right after the SEC makes available all of
the reports that were filed for the day. It extracts all of the insider trading activity and income statements from the annual earnings reports.
The information we have is a s 'fresh' and as
complete as possible. We do not rely on people to process the earnings reports and dumb them down to mere summary information. The information you find here is as direct and detailed as was originally published.
We include ownership information that includes grants, stocks both direct and indirect and find the associated groups that are indirectly linked to insiders to give you the complete picture of insider ownership and trading activity.
We are continuously making progress on the next phase of development to bring you more detailed and industry specific information. Currently, we are working on extracting quarterly income statements and off-balance-sheet items such as operating leases.
As always, feedback and recommendations are welcome.
Our goal is to make these features available to as broad an audience is possible and support those who help investors make sound investment decisions.
We would like to reach out to the following
- Academia We want to hear from academics to share and exchange ideas on the best ways to analyze earnings data and provide
users with the best analytics possible.
- Bloggers We're interested in developing strategic alliances with the blogging community. The proprietary charts we've produced are meant to
be shared with the blogging community and are embeddable in your blogs. We want to develop additional technologies to share content with bloggers.
